How to Make Nyonya Curry Laksa in 40 Minutes

This authentic Asian noodle soup is cooked with many spices and herbs. In Malaysia and Singapore, curry noodles, curry laksa noodles and prawn noodles are very popular. The Nyonya curry laksa noodle soup goes well with rice noodles, yellow noodles (shanghai noodles), or vermicelli.

What is Nyonya Curry Laksa?

Nyonya Curry Laksa is a spicy noodle soup popular in Malaysia and Singapore. It is aptly called Singapore Laksa in Singapore, while in Malaysia, it is Nyonya curry laksa, or simply just curry laksa.

Curry Laksa is made with many spices, herbs and coconut milk. The distinct flavour of curry laksa comes from galangal and dried shrimps, which sets it apart from regular Nyonya Curry. Also traditionally curry laksa is served with thick rice noodles, and that makes it extra satisfying. However, you can use other types of noodles too such as yellow noodles or vermicelli too.

The popular and common toppings are fish cakes, fried tofu puffs, shredded chicken, shrimp, hard-boiled eggs, minced laksa leaves. In addition, bean sprouts are also blanched and served with rice noodles.

Preparing Nyonya Curry Laksa Spice Paste is Time Consuming

Nyonya curry laksa spice paste uses many ingredients, and preparing spice paste from scratch is time-consuming. You first source the correct spices, and then gound them with mortar and pastel. After that, it is stir-fry in a wok for an extended period of time to bring out the aroma, taste and colour. As a result, it is also very tiring. I am not good at mixing spices, so I often use instant curry laksa paste to prepare this dish at home.

Authentic Instant Spice Paste You Should Try

If you have never used instant spice paste in your cooking before, definitely give it a try. As it saves you a lot of time in the preparation of raw ingredients, as a result, you spend less time cooking a delicious dish and more time enjoying the dish with family and friends.

Many different brands of Nyonya curry laksa paste are available in the market. And you should always look for natural flavours in the paste. As the artificial flavour is not going to taste the same.

There are many ingredients in the paste. And if you are allergic to a certain food, remember to look at the ingredients list when shopping for the Nyonya curry laksa paste.
